Debian Policy Section 10.1 contains the following makefile snippet in
regards to using the 'nostrip' option.

ifeq (,$(findstring nostrip,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
INSTALL_PROGRAM += -s
endif

It should be:

ifneq (,$(findstring nostrip,$(DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS)))
INSTALL_PROGRAM += -s
endif
