Did you see the bug number ? #84473 dated Fri, 2 Feb 2001.

That is a lot of time for maturing. A lot of work have been
done behind the scene to compute a list of useful hints, to update
package menu file to use them, to study the effect on the whole menu
layout, etc.  Things are slightly frozen now pending for the release of
Sarge. Closing the bug at this point does not seems a terribly
productive activity.
