Sorry, I was under the impression that recreating the file was the
default behavior. Reading thread more carefully, I see that I had
this backwards. Given that and the above, I think I tend to side with
Manoj on this. Although I think I'm a little less hard-line than he
is, and might be willing to consider allowing exceptions if they're
well documented. (And, better yet, conditional, i.e. ask the user
before proceeding.)
