That we introduced nostrip nearly at the same time we dropped debug
does not mean nostrip "replaces" debug. They have different meanings.

The fact is that before, we had an option to determine whether
or not -g had to be used, and now, we always compile using -g.

This decision was made after considering the real benefit of compiling
without -g (negligible according to people who did some tests).

I would call that a wise simplification.


For the same reason I would like to see the real benefits from
changing the format of debian/rules.
