Thats the very situation though that people have said they dislike.
It means if you make a minor change to the debian/ directory, you
have to upload a new copy of the entire source code.
If you just made it a native package, these changes could be
represented in diff form without having to down-load the entire
source.
Seeing you already use the debian revision number, why not take
it to its full potential?
(that way you also get the added benefit that the original tar.gz file
is "pristine source" compared with what you distribute elsewhere)
