No, we simply use the ld.so from glibc. It would be great if Linux could
also drop the special ld-linux.so and aim at a merger with glibc (I thought
this was already attempted in the past, seems my memory is at fault).
The Hurd exec server supports various object formats (from the bfd library),
elf and a.out included. I don't know what the glibc linker supports on the
Hurd.
