Re: Are /cdrom and /floppy really forbidden by policy?



There is an interesting paragraph in the FHS saying:

 To qualify as partially FHS compliant or partially FHS compatible an
 implementation must provide a list of all places at which it and the FHS
 document differ in addition to a brief explanation of the reasoning for
 this difference.  This list shall be provided with the implementation in
 question, and also made available to the FHS mailing list or the FHS
 editor.

And Policy 3.1.1 currently says:

   The location of all installed files and directories must comply fully
   with the Linux Filesystem Structure (FSSTND).

I think we should change this paragraph so that it says "FHS", and start
making a list of all places at which Debian and the FHS differ.

[ We could then make the /floppy and /cdrom directories one of these
  "allowed" exceptions ].
