|"It's my personal feeling that all X applications, libraries, headers,
|"and everything else (with the possible exception of the few X config files
|"that reside in /etc) should be in /usr/X11R6, because a machine that
|"remote mounts /usr/X11R6 also gets all _the_correct_versions_ of the X
|"programs it'll run that way, rather than having local,
|"possibly-incompatable versions in /usr/bin.

That seems like a strange argument to me - in principle, a program linked
with X11R5 shared libraries should also work with X11R6 libraries. Of
course, not necessarily vice versa. X11R6 and up do not change any APIs or
internals, as far as I know.

Besides, shouldn't the Debian dependency system take care of dependencies
on versions and in such a way ensure correct versioning of programs and
libraries ?
