That was my original proposal, except it was more genral than
just fetchmailrc. To refresh peoples memory:
Non-conffile /etc/ppp/ip.conf is searched like so:
egrep "^fetchmail.*UP=YES' /etc/ppp/ip.conf || exit 0
One line, which automatically defaults to off until the user
edits /etc/ppp/ip.conf, and inserts stull like
----------------------------------------------------------------------
fetchmail UP=YES
sendmail UP=YES
slrn UP=NO
xntp UP=YES DOWN=NO
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Easy to understand (most users would find a script
inscrutable), easy to see what is configured, and what is not, and
the format is simple enough that one may offer a simple user inter
face, graphical or not, for this.
