Instead of shipping with it off, could it be shipped with it disabled?
I.e. instead of making it so you have to edit a file to enable it,
perhaps fetchmail coud check for the existance of a file first? For
instance /etc/fetchmailrc or somthing like that?
That way it is effectively off, but doesn't require the user to edit a
conffile.
Just a thought.
