I've been following this thread now, and both of you have presented pretty
much everything I was going to say except ...
Whenever I hear/read the term conffile I think . o O { Hmm, editable by
hand, possibly with a text editor }. I think what Joey is pointing out is
a new kind of file (perhaps default file?, inital file? I think someone
also suggested "system data file"?) which contains variable data the
package maintainer would like to provide (like a `filled-in' high-scores
list) and upgrade silently if there have been no modifications.
They may also want the ability to provide some kind of description if the
file has changed when upgrading. A possibile session might be:
[WARNING]: /var/lib/dosemu/hdimage has changed.
This realease of dosemu provides a hdimage in NTFS format. If your
current hdmiage is in FAT[12|16|32] and you have not made any changes
select 'Y' to replace the file. Select 'C' to attempt a conversion,
any other key will leave your hdimage alone. It can be converted later
using ....
Select: install? [y,C,n]
[ you get the idea I hope ]
[WARNING]: /var/lib/games/xboing.score has changed.
This is the default high scores file for XBoing with some high scores
to challenge yourself against. If you have been playing for a while,
you may want a new challenge -- if so, select `Y'.
Select: install? [y,N]
Thoughts?
Anand.
