I think I'd prefer "modules" over "dists" over "distributions".
Rationale: "distribution" is a very generic term, which may be applied
to Debian, Ubuntu, Perl (the interpreter) or SONY. It is like
"packages" - means everything and nothing.
We have "packages" on alioth, but the separation there is different
— scripts, website, packages. That is, "scripts" and "website" are
clearly not packages.
I like "modules" because the separation now is "Perl-the interpreter"
and "extensions to the interpreter, modules".
I hope this convinces you (plural). If not, perhaps we should vote,
decide and finally move on :)
