I think it's either that or reverse the change in Perl, and since the
change is the right thing to do....
But wow, what a pain.
I suppose if we'd been thinking ahead, we would have figured this bug
would eventually be fixed and made that command ignore errors, but I used
that same pattern all over my packages before I even joined the team, and
I never thought of that either.
