[General thought]

I have already committed to an apache-perl static modperl package. 
This currently uses a static libperl.a and should damn well continue to
do so.  Because it is available (and will be much improved in woody
when I have a little time to coordinate with Johnie) I will probably
link the shared modperl with a shared libperl.so if I can.
