If InitialPreference is KDE-specific, wouldn't that mean it works
_only_ on KDE correctly?

Anyway, I reproduced this issue using the i3 window manager and Thunar
as well as Midnight Commander.  Nothing with KDE, except that Okular
is unwantedly started.
