Because your enchant is buggy.

The enchant in Debian is fixed to use /usr/share/hunspell:
enchant (1.4.2-3.4) unstable; urgency=low
* Non-maintainer upload.
* --with-myspell-dir=/usr/share/hunspell (closes: #549877)
* remove RPATHs on /usr/lib...

For the transitional period where not everything did use /usr/share/hunspell

Then you should not have lost the enchant fix.
