In Ubuntu, we've applied the attached patch to achieve the following:

  * debian/hunspell-fr.links:
    - define symlinks for the fr_FR dictionary too otherwise only the 
      other variants are listed in GNOME dialogs

We thought you might be interested in doing the same.
