Then you didn't read close enough. Upstream only ships a module
inside its tree. Not being in the system at all. The system integration
for that is just the proper packaging work distros do.

So they basically only support one python either for their version. the
one they include (which now happens to be 2.6, but was 2.4 a long time
wven when 2.5 was old)

I do, and those can be done, too. Just use the supported python version.
