I've just installed non-Debian OpenOffice.org 1.1 (from his web page)
and I don't have those problems with it (it starts in about 20 seconds,
after a strip), so definitively the problem is in the packages.
Hope this helps.
PS: If you need a shell account on my system to debug it I don't have
any problem with it.
