The mailing list is ok; since its a bug you could have used the BTS too.

It's a bug.  OOo does not try to read KDEDIRS at all.  Upstream has even
worse KDE integration - it does not read KDEHOME or use the menu font. 
I was actually planning on submitting our patch upstream, but it looks
like we need to add support for KDEDIRS support to it too.

Filing a report to make sure this doesn't get forgotten.
