This works for me, I don't get that error message. I can also run
$ /usr/bin/octave-cli -qfH
octave:1> addpath /usr/share/octave/4.0.0-rc3/etc/tests/libinterp/dldfcn
octave:2> test __osmesa_print__.cc-tst
PASSES 2 out of 2 tests
