I am not so fond of this. IMHO, Makefiles should be made in such a way
that changing the location of an installed library is easy (for example,
by using Makefile variables), and we should not resort to such a hack to
(try to) be compatible with as much Makefiles as possible. After all,
one could have installed the library in e.g. /usr/local, or even a
different, non-standard, location (e.g. because the user compiling
cannot perform system-wide installations)...
