Not in my view. A user using willing to try something more developish can first go and try the testing version, then try the unstable version, then try the vcs url provided in the source package. Besides, a user willing to try something out of a vcs repository should be able to discover by himself the branch more appropriate to her. The point of the field is more about letting users know there *is* a repository than pointing them to a branch that in some way matches with the package they are looking.
