Re: state of the numerix package

FWIW, the RC bugs on numerix have to do with platforms on which it doesn't
build. I'm not sure why they're considered RC; my understanding was that
FTBFS is only RC if it formerly built on that platform.

I've long since dealt with reworking the Makefiles to handle the case where
the ocaml byte compiler doesn't exist. But in the interim, ocaml-nums and/or
the handling of library search paths in ocamlmklib seems to have regressed,
and my build is failing:

ocamlmklib -o numerix -oc mlnumx lib/ocaml/numerix.cmo lib/ocaml/numcount.cmo
lib/ocaml/numcmp.cmo lib/common/chrono.o lib/common/ml-long_int-c.o
lib/common/ml-long_int-d.o lib/common/ml-gmp_int.o .libobj/*.o -lgmp -lnums
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lnums

I'm making a more serious effort at debugging this as we speak, starting with
getting caught up on several weeks' worth of evolution of sid. Sorry I've
been kind of out of touch; the new day job (I'm seven weeks in) has really
eaten me for lunch. As of today I have finally wrapped a lasso around the
responsibilities of the position; it's an alarmingly long list. Happily, a
large fraction of it has to do with contributing to Debian, beginning with
getting the SKS keyserver and its dependencies (e. g., numerix) stabilized.
Watch this space.

Cheers,
- - Michael
