Pierre-Elliott Bécue: Advocate

For nm.debian.org:

I support Pierre-Elliott Bécue (PEB) <becue@crans.org>'s request to
become Debian Maintainer.

I have worked together with Pierre-Elliott Bécue in the past three
months on packaging the Mailman3 suite for Debian. He already had done
quite some preliminary work when I joined his efforts and while not
usable yet, the packages showed his understanding of large areas of
the Debian packaging ecosystem.

While working together, Pierre-Elliott Bécue showed to me that he
has a good understanding of the Debian universe and of the standards
to follow. But way more important is that he has proven to work very
thoroughly, double-checks everything, does systematic reviews of the
co-maintainers (here: my) commits and in general has a high standard.

In the process of packaging Mailman3 components, Pierre-Elliott Bécue
got to know several new areas of Debian packaging, like complex
maintainer scripts, debconf and the ucf config management tool.

While I have a strong gut feeling that Pierre-Elliott believes in the
principles of our DFSG, our common social and philosophical goals (as
stated by the Debian Social Contract and the Debian Code of Conduct)
and the philosophy of Free Software in general, we didn't talk much
about that. So I cannot give a reliable assessment here. At least he
never gave me a reason to doubt his commitment here, quite the
opposite.

To make a long story short, I strongly believe that that Pierre-Elliott
Bécue <becue@crans.org> (key 9AE04D986400E3B67528F4930D442664194974E2)
can be trusted to have upload rights for their own packages, right now.

Cheers
