Are there people willing to teach me this human (i.e. > non-technical) aspect of the Debian community? note that not using your legal name is not at all the same as hiding one's identity. it is perfectly possible for someone to be publicly known by a name which are not the one they carry in government-issued ID. from the top of my head I can think of a couple of reasons someone would not want to reveal their legal name in public: - in Brazil it is somewhat common for parents to get away with registering their children with ridiculous names which cause kids to be severily bullied to the point they don't feel comfortable using their legal names anymore. - transgender people don't want to be associated with the legal names that were assigned to them at birth. also, depending on where you live it is not always easy/quick to change your legal name.
