I live in France, near Paris. I used GNU/Linux during my studies as it was the OS of choice for the computer lab, but I really discovered it during my PhD, when a new server with Debian woody got installed. I then started to read about Debian and decided I should try to install it on my personal computer. Since then, Debian has been my unique OS, and I am everyday more and more amazed by diversity and quality of free software available straight away from Debian. I really appreciated the values of freedom of Debian, and the fact it was created by volunteers. After several years of reading about/learning/configuring/working with Debian, I decided it was time for me to give back something to the Debian project. I started to contribute in the debian-l10n-french@ mailing list, working on translations on debconf, program messages but also webpages and announcements from the press/publicity team. That is how I got involved in the publicity team, and started participating in the edition of Debian Project News. At about the same time, I joined the Ruby Team, where I helped during the transition to a new Ruby polycy and where I (co)maintain about 55 packages. As a translator, the two major pieces I've worked on are the translations of packaging-tutorial and the documentation of aptitude. I am not too much of a coder myself, but I can see several things I could do for Debian. My goals in the short term are to stay involved in the teams I am already woking with: publicity, Ruby and l10n-french. I am also interested by the i18n team. In the longer term, I would like to help with the packaging of software not already in Debian but which is/would be useful for my work: - Sage (www.sagemath.org) [I saw ongoing discussions in debian-science on this topic] - SciRuby (sciruby.com), which is still at an early stage of its development. 3. Philosophy and Procedures ----------------------------- Cédric Boutillier has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract, DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Cédric Boutillier committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP. 4. Tasks and Skills ------------------- Cédric Boutillier has a good understanding of the technical side of Debian. Cédric Boutillier is maintainer of 55 packages (sponsored by verious persons from the ruby team). All packages are in good shape. Cédric Boutillier also answered my other questions regarding T&S without problems and provided patches for RC bugs. He is also very active in the debian publicity team, helping with translating and writing DPN and press posts. 5. Recommendation ----------------- I recommend to accept Cédric Boutillier as a Debian Developer. -- Martin Zobel-Helas <zobel@debian.org> | Debian System Administrator Debian & GNU/Linux Developer | Debian Listmaster GPG key http://go.debian.net/B11B627B | Debian Webmaster GPG Fingerprint: 6B18 5642 8E41 EC89 3D5D BDBB 53B1 AC6D B11B 627B
