2. Background
-------------
Applicant writes:
At first, I am an professional IT guy for a long time now (over ten
years, in Telecoms and BioInformatics), being both developer and
project manager on both open source and closed source projects, in many
languages (mainly Java). I love programmation and IT,
mainly on distributed programming and cloud. Ok, this is not really
eccentric today, everybody talk about cloud... but I really do like
that :-)
Linux is an environment I discovered during my studies (quite a long
time ago now...), and kept as personal and professional environment.
I use open source software a lot, and I push for open source
developments (personal or professional).
After some years of development, I discovered the great advantages of
packaging applications and Debian appeared as the
most complete tool for me (with build helpers and a huge repository).
So I started to put my own software on Debian.
After that, I continued with the software from others projects, mainly
in collaboration with the Debian-Med team.
My field of interest is in BioInformatics, so I focus on this field to
provide the science community the tools I know (and I can test).
Furthermore, my current work helps me as I can use a little of my time
for this (for science stuff). Remaining time being at home....
However I hope I'll can help on other topics with my programming skills.
I want to volunteer to give back the help I had (and still have) from
the various support teams and help the Debian distribution
being a more attractive distribution for end users than it is.
Beside packaging tasks, I'll like to participate to an other task on
Frontend or Backend operations, even if I do not really know yet how...
Google says:
Active in Symbiose Project Team, Debian, and Debian-med. Also shows
he is active in med related projects.
3. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Olivier Sallou has a good understanding of Debian's philosophy and
procedures and answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in a good way. Olivier Sallou committed to uphold the
SC and DFSG in his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.
4. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Olivier Sallou has a good understanding of the technical side of
Debian. Olivier is a co-maintainer of many debian-med packages and
is DM upload ok on many of them. His packages are in good shape,
and are mostly group or co-maintained. Olivier also answered my other
questions regarding T&S without problems and provided patches for RC
bugs.
5. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept Olivier Sallou as a Debian Developer.
