No. I can't judge who praised you, but I know of quite a few people who
have (often) been surprised by the ugly hacks in your packaging [1], your
arrogance towards other developers and a general unwillingness to bend
to Debian's policies when you believed to know better.
I won't actually veto you becoming a DM, but the quoted statement is
(and that's phrased nicely) not the full truth.
