   Applicant writes:
I've been using Unix and free software since 1993, first touched Linux in
early 1994. I heard about Debian while talking to a DD some time
around 1996, and started doing floppy installs of bo. I never had
usability problems with either boot-floppies or dselect - both, to
me, seemed powerful and user-friendly for their time. I also never
saw the point (and still don't) in trying other Linux
   distributions.

Ever since my introduction to free software, I've wanted to be a
useful contributor. I really loved the flexibility to customize
the system, and add features. Ever since the early days, I've
submitted small patches here and there, from cmp to the kernel, to
add small features or fix small bugs.

As for Debian, I would like to contribute primarily as a coder and
package maintainer. To that end, I maintain/comaintain a handful
of packages of various types. I guess my criteria for adopting
packages are the same as everyone else's - something I use,
something I feel competent to maintain. Beyond package
maintenance, I'm open to helping Debian in other ways, but when I
look at the myriad different jobs people do for Debian, in most
cases I see volunteers much better at these jobs than I would be,
so for now I've concentrated my energy on package maintenance,
which I feel I can do reasonably well.

2. Philosophy and Procedures
-----------------------------
Peter has an excellent understanding of Debian's philosophy and
procedures. He answered all my questions about the social contract,
DFSG, BTS, etc. in such a way that I probably learned more than him
during his NM process. He committed to uphold the SC and DFSG in
his Debian work and accepts the DMUP.

3. Tasks and Skills
-------------------
Again, Peter has a very good understanding of the technical side of
Debian. I decided to skip the last T&S part since the answers to
the first part were very good. Peter is maintainer of several
well-known packages, namely subversion, equivs, and gpm. He also
maintains xsok and cplay. All packages are in good shape and Peter
is working hard with the co-maintainers to make them even better.

4. Recommendation
-----------------
I recommend to accept him as a Debian Developer.
