Things like svn-buildpackage let you just build a package from er SVN
obviously but this is a real win compared to having to search the BTS
for many patches, find the last one in each case (in case they went
through revisions) and then apply them before finally building a
package.

This is just one way but I think keeping them all in some form of
version control is better and gives contributors more of a sense of
achievement than just a patch that might be ignored.

If only every package used alioth or similar...
