Dear Deva, If upstream (ie. the original author) is still active, you really should send them your patches to their code. So in future, they won't inadvertently duplicate the work you have already done. It will also give him/her the chance to make suggestions before you distribute a program that may operate differently from the one they original released. It'll also make the next package release easier since you won't have to figure out how to get your code working again if upstream changes the structure of his source code.
