That solved the symptoms AFAIK.

I could not test your patch, my local build of curl fails with a mysterious:

dh_install: warning: Cannot find (any matches for)
"usr/lib/*/libcurl.so.4*" (tried in debian/tmp, debian/tmp)
[...]
