Bug#914127: vlc GUI crashes on several UI operations with same errormessage everytime

Source: vlc
Severity: normal

   * What led up to the situation?
- trying to open a DVD
 or
- trying to open a network stream
 or
- trying to save a running stream (the latter initiated from commandline)

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
like: open vlc GUI, then select open device (from menu)

   * What was the outcome of this action?
GUI closing without any visible feedback. I had to resort to commandline to
catch an error message

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
play the dvd that was mounted and visible and all

The error message appearing in all the mentioned cases on terminal:

ASSERT failure in QList<T>::operator[]: "index out of range", file
/usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/QtCore/qlist.h, line 545
