Provider mirror

Hi everyone, thanks for letting me on the list

Wanted to introduce myself and offer a little support. Background: I’m in my late 30s and practically grown up on and with a computer, and a big part of that was Linux based OSs, a major one being Debian I’ve always liked the environment and development processes, though I’ve never really been part of that I can tell just by using it compared to other distros it’s really stable and reliable. That’s what I’m all about. Anyway a few others were Slackware (which I do provide a mirror for, admin maintains), Fedora and CentOS flavors, don’t really recall any more maybe Mandrake. I did the LFS project spent weeks compiling that on an AMD K6 (Compaq :P) when I was a teenager. Basically self learned a good bit about the space and especially PHP and MySQL, I was pretty big on that once, still fiddle some in it, haven’t forgotten everything yet. I got (I thought) pretty good with building Slackware install packages on Slackware version 7/8/9, it never went anywhere except my box no one ever cared much but I was proud of it, I tested it and it worked well. (We’re talking maybe 20-30 different programs/installations) nothing too major. Anyway. Computer networking is really all I know and do. I got married (still am :P), got a little school (AAS) and went on to work professionally in the field for 12 years here and back in early 2018 I branched out on my own. I provide end user support for various things, a lot of it is just typical stuff, Windows, servers, email, etc, while I enjoy doing that my deep passion is more for the Linux environment and wide area networking and hosting services etc. But I just don’t buy into the cloud space like Amazon and Microsoft so much. It has its place. But my passion is elsewhere. So 5 years now I’ve been running my own business etc but I want to get a little back to the space I was. Currently I have the resources and would like to provide a Debian mirror, if it’s needed. I have a small data center, I’m working to build a new structure just for it, in the near future, so it’s not exactly how I want it yet, but I do have multi homed dedicated fiber providers with failover in place etc (2 providers currently). And automatic standby generator power, UPS systems etc so I do consider it to be pretty reliable. Speed is currently 300Mbps with bursts being a little higher, and the backup link is 100M.

Anyway long story short I would like to support the project in way of a mirror, but is there someone that could help reliably maintain it? I can provide full access and resources to the system. Location is southeastern usa (Mississippi). I just don’t have the full time that is really needed to make sure it’s 100%, ie it’s staying up to date etc, though time to time I would check around in details at operation. I know mirrors are a dime a dozen nowadays but it’s probably the only way I could support the project and be involved a little. Yes I do use Linux everyday, it runs my DNS servers and it runs on my edge routers actually. We also provide various types of services like the usual web and email, UniFi controllers, NextCloud servers, some VoIP that kind of thing.

But I would absolutely love to and I believe it would work well. If someone could provide a little of their time to just double check it regularly I would be glad to get the base install going and provide access.

Thoughts, comments, reactions? Let me know!
