I've also tried the gnew-sense (metad) linux kernel with the same result:

% uname -a
Linux mini-0 2.6.37-libre-lemote #1 PREEMPT Thu Jan 6 11:56:46 UTC
2011 mips64 GNU/Linux

Unfortunately it didn't work either, :-(

So it might be that the USB controller is buggy?  Any ways, just
wanted to report in case someone might ggest that...  Any suggestions
are welcome...
