I forgot to mention, I already tried to by placing MAKE_FLAGS="-j 1"
after sudo in the command line below, but to no avail.

Neither do I, -j 2 was hardcoded in 2 places in debian/rules.
ATM the next build is running. With debian/rules configure not
configuring I'm still waiting for configure to finish (as on every run :()
before I can see if removing -j 2 helps.
