I've had the problem before that if this isn't explicitly initialized, then things sometimes work, sometimes don't going into X.

Other resolutions are possible.

That worked like a charm. My poor brain was trying out vga=794 and such, which, in retrospect, may be x86-specific.

What I don't get is how the old kernels in etch autodetected the correct framebuffer res. Perhaps it was a fluke.
