Problems with /dev/lcd

Hiho...

I want to use "led-set" from this homepage:
http://www.qube2.org/2007/07/10/led-set-utility-for-cobalt-server/

but it says:
qube:~# led-set -s
Failed to open LCD device at /dev/lcd!
qube:~#
qube:~#

There is no /dev/lcd.

If i do a :
qube:~# mknod /dev/lcd c 10 140

then /dev/lcd is there, but a can't put text on it.
qube:~# cat "test" >> /dev/lcd
-bash: /dev/lcd: No such device
qube:~#

"paneld" works on my Qube2.
qube:~# uname -a
Linux qube 2.6.18-5-r5k-cobalt #1 Wed Oct 3 02:19:46 UTC 2007 mips GNU/Linux
qube:~#

Anyone can help me?
