The problem is that all the tests in the configure script that compile a
program fail:

configure:13433: result: no
configure:13337: checking for strerror
configure:13393: mipsel-linux-gnu-gcc -o conftest  -DDEBIAN -g -O2

/usr/bin/ld: cannot represent machine `mipsel'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure:13399: $? = 1

I guess in OUTPUT_ARCH(mipsel) has to be changed to OUTPUT_ARCH(mips) in
mipsel.ld.

I am doing a test build now.
