This happened every time I tried. The last boot message before the
scrambled screen says:
"(process 141) ERROR: Couldn't get a file descriptor referring to the console".
Maybe this helps?

OK. Result: ext2r0 is not recognized. So I formatted the boot partition
with the partitioning tool and got the message:
"ext2 has a rather strange layout! Parted can't resize this (yet)."
Who said "resize"? Whatever, Continue. Result:
"The test of the filesystem with type ext3 in partition #3 of IDE1
master (hda) found uncorrected errors.
If you do not go back to the partitioning menu and correct this
errors, the partition will not be used at all."
Grrrr. Ignored this, got the same message for partition #4,
ignored this too. The tool checked the swap space and after that
a check for bad blocks. Result was a nice screen:

+ÄÄ+ [!!] Partition disks +ÄÄÄ+
         ??? ???

   <Go back> <Continue>

+ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ+

Sorry, that's not fun! <Continue> leads to the same screen, so the
installation ends up here. I nearly abandon hope to get this Qube
running Debian someday.
But thanks for helping!
