Problems booting Linux on an Indy

Hi,
We've recently acquired a second hand Indy which we got mainly as a way
of gaining experience with IRIX, but also to experiment with Linux on
the MIPS architecture. However, today, after much struggling, I finally
got the darn thing to fetch an IP via BOOTP (This was the easy bit) and
download a kernel (this was what stumped me). Dispite this, the machine
still doesn't boot, throwing up the error:

Unable to load bootp()/tftpboot/tftpboot.img: execute format error

I saw on http://www.linux-mips.org/technical_faq.html, that an old PROM
version can cause this. Typing 'version' in the PROM console yeilds:

Is this sufficient or do I need to somehow update my PROM? If an
update is necessary, where do I download the image and how do I flash
the PROM?
I've also seen that 'sash' can boot ELF binaries, where can I obtain
this? I have two hard drives I'm using in this machine, a 4GB Quantum
Atlas SCSI (currently loaded with IRIX) and a 2GB Seagate Barracuda (for
my Linux installation). I'm guessing it will be somewhere on the 4GB
drive, how would I load this onto the 2GB drive?
