OT: boot from cd

in an initial attempt to dual boot my indy i decided to reinstall irix from cd
over my current debian installation and then attempt to put a debian on there
that will understand irix disk labels etc. however... i didnt get very far as
i got the following error

swap partition (1) not valid

looking through irix docs, this is because a miniroot is copied to the swap
partition that is always partition 1. what do i need to do in order to
convince the installer to work? can i just remove the disklabel? is it just
looking for raw disk with no file system on it? in which case, what is the
best way of doing this?

GREG

ps i dont suppose debian-mips (sid?) already comes with sgi disk label and
efs/xfs support in the kernel does it?
