disappearing symlinks

Hi,
when installing packages in my glibc2.2-chroot environment I sometimes
see the following:

bert:/autobuild/tmp# dpkg -i autoconf_2.13-22.deb 
(Reading database ... 3776 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking autoconf (from autoconf_2.13-22.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing autoconf_2.13-22.deb (--install):
 error setting ownership of symlink `usr/share/autoconf/acconfig.h': No
 such file or directory

But when I unpack the deb by hand(ar/tar) the link there. This happens
with symlinks in quiet a lot of packages(both from ftp.debian.org and
self compile). Any ideas?
