Adding a new package to Debian

Dear fellow members of the Debian mentoring community.

I am one of the maintainers of SUPER Android Analyzer, an application to check an Android APK application for vulnerabilities. The software has lots of potential and has been added to some software distributions. We recently received a request for SUPER to be included in a Debian-based distribution, and even if we provide packages built for Debian, we noticed that there already was a package named `super` in the Debian repositories.

We first thought of changing our package name to something other than `super`, but we then noticed that the package had not been updated in more than 9 years, and we thought it would make sense to ask if it was possible to replace it in Debian by our package. As a summary, our package is written in Rust and currently requires java-jre as a dependency, since it also packages some Java projects we currently use for the analysis. All the project and dependencies we redistribute are licensed under GPLv3.

I am new to packaging, and I did't know where to ask, or if this was even possible, so I'm asking this in the mentoring list. Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Iban Eguia
