It doesn't create them, but it appears to be able to display them.
With GNOME 2.30 I got some new wallpapers and one of them is a
collection of space images that GNOME cycles through. It appears
possible to create a twisty maze of image transitions or just a pure
cycle with separate timings for each transition.

Firstly, read David Kalnischkies reply to this.

Secondly, I don't need to do that to know that working with upstream
to add this missing feature to the GNOME desktop would be better than
creating a new app that will be obsolete when GNOME folks get around
to adding the feature that it provides. Perhaps you already tried that
and had it rejected by the GNOME developers, if so the RFS mail should
have mentioned that.
