RFS: new package lmfit: Levenberg-Marquardt least-squares minimization and curve fitting

Dear prospective sponsor,

I would greatly appreciate your help in adding lmfit to Debian.

lmfit is a mathematical library for least-squares minimization
and curve fitting. It uses the standard algorithm by Levenberg
(1944), Marquardt (1963) and Moré (1978). It is based on the
public-domain FORTRAN implementation lmdif in minpack. About
five years ago, I translated the code into C and published it
as project lmfit, first on sourceforge, later on my own web site:
http://www.messen-und-deuten.de/lmfit/lmfit.html. With the help
of many users, I corrected and improved the computation, added
wrappers, and wrote documentation.

Today I created Debian packages, using dh_make and dpkg-buildpackage.
Basically, everything went well; so I am confident that not too
much work is required to make lmfit ready for Debian.

Looking forward to your answer, Joachim
