But CC is used also when compiling object files not only when linking.
Is this the right way? Couldn't we forget those warnings? Must I put ./configure CC="gcc -Wl,--as-needed" in debian/rules then?

I'm sorry for all these questions, but I'd like to contribute to debian in general also.
