is debian/dirs necessary? Shouldn't setuptools create that?
The homepage should be moved to a proper field:

In the package description, you need to separate paragraphs properly
in the description. Use " ." on a line between the two paragraphs.
Why don't you run setup.py clean?
Why do you run echo `pwd` ?
You might want to join the python-modules team, you are more likely to
get sponsors from the team too.
