but for clarity: are these tmpfiles left in /tmp or /var/tmp, or are
they in /var/cache somewhere?

there are two seperate issues here really:  (1) where does the data
belong and (2) how should it be managed/deleted?

i don't know enough about the software to have an opinion on either one,
fwiw.
